WormWoman,
a.k.a. Mary Appelhof would like to recognize a wonderful
young vermicomposting entrepreneur. Cody is a young man
who has achieved a successful small business and a very
young age. With a copy of my book "Worms Eat My Garbage"
and a great deal of creativity Cody is top worm in my
book. I think you will all enjoy his story.
Congratulations Cody!
WormWoman
My
name is Cody B. I am 13 years old and live in Northeast
Washington. I am a homeschooler and am productive in Boy
Scouts, 4H, and I started a chess club. I started worm
farming about 4 1/2 years ago. After my first 2 years
I decided that this is what I wanted to do for a living
and 2 1/2 years later I still do!!! My first 2 years were
not very pretty, I grabbed a cardboard box filled it with
dirt and rocks and a few night crawlers then put about
3 pounds of leftovers in the box three weeks later...
well you can probably guess what happened!!! However,
now I am much better at it and I know what and what not
to do. I use a Can-O-Worms bin with about 6,000 happy
little red worms inside. I enjoy worm farming very much.
I use the worm compost on my little aloe vera plants,
I am getting so much of it that I will be selling it soon.
I also enjoy teaching others how to worm farm, I set them
up with bins, worms and lessons for a set price. I would
like to expand my business soon by buying more bins and
possibly a small shed to put them all in, once I get a
little older I would also like to build a green house
and grow plants to sell with the wonderful compost I receive.
This
summer I did a public speaking presentation at our local
fair titled " Ask me about my worms". I won
Grand Champion in the 4-H intermediate division. That
award enabled me to compete at state level at the Puyallup
State Fair where I won a blue ribbon and also a special
judges merit award! So anyway, that is some information
on me and my business. I am honored that you have considered
me to put on your web site,
Thank
You,
Cody
